Suppressors

During differentiation and progression of the cell cycle, suppressors silence gene expression. Often, these elements bind with other regulatory factors and reduce the rate of transcription. Accumulating evidence suggests that both long and short RNA molecules have a role in transcription inhibition. Polycomb complexes PRC 1/2 requires silencing elements from non-coding transcript for recruiting target genes. PRC1 methylation prevents chromatin remodelling is one such example.
